Patricia Rocha Is New Principal of Alma Brewer Strawn Elementary School

Patricia Rocha has joined Lockhart ISD as Principal of the new Alma Brewer Strawn Elementary School.  The Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Ms. Rocha at the December 14, 2015 regularly scheduled Board meeting. Ms. Rocha will begin preparation for the staffing and operation of Strawn Elementary, which is currently under construction and will open its doors to students in the fall of 2016.

Lockhart ISD Superintendent, Susan K. Bohn, shared, “The opening of a new campus is an exciting and challenging endeavor and requires a very special person.  I know that, in Ms. Rocha, we have found an instructional leader who is well-suited to serve our students at the level of excellence that we expect in Lockhart.  We are very excited to have her join the Lockhart ISD family.”

Patricia has twenty years of experience in public education. She was most recently a Child Study System school facilitator for the Austin Independent School District and worked to support elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools with systemic interventions for academics, behavior and attendance. She is a former school principal and assistant principal with Del Valle ISD, and prior to being a school administrator, she was a bilingual elementary teacher.

As an elementary principal, her focus was on cultivating professional learning communities and increasing authentic parent involvement and community engagement as the mechanism for school improvement. The academic focus placed an emphasis on literacy and early reading skills. As a principal, Patricia was recognized by the Raise Your Hand Texas Leadership Program and was chosen to participate in a summer institute at the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Principals’ Center. Patricia is currently an advisory board member for the Leaders for Today and Tomorrow Project with the Institute for Educational Leadership.
