Principal Denisha Presley attends Summer Harvard Program

We are happy to share that our own Lockhart High School M.L. Cisneros Freshman Campus Principal Denisha Presley was selected as a recipient of the Raise Your Hand Texas grant to attend The Principals’ Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education this summer.

Raise Your Hand Texas received over 200 applications and completed in-person interviews with over 120 candidates in several Texas cities.  While at Cambridge, the principals joined other school leaders from around the world and participated in weeklong courses taught by Harvard educators. They also had the opportunity to connect with their peers, learn new practices, and shared their leadership experiences at one of the most renowned educational institutions in the world.

As she prepares for the 2016-17 school year, Mrs. Presley reflects on the program:

“While at Harvard, I was able to broaden my frame of understanding and begin creating a plan to increase academic performance at the M. L. Cisneros Campus. My plan is based on two simple truths from Dr. K. Merseth, Director of Teacher Education at Harvard: 1) demography isn't destiny - excellence over equity; and 2) data diagnose the problems, but only people can solve them.  I'm most excited about the immediacy of this plan to increase community engagement with the idea of excellence for all students and improve the implementation of professional learning communities as we more effectively use data to solve problems.”

As a graduate of the program, Mrs. Presley will receive ongoing coaching, support, and professional development from Raise Your Hand Texas
