LISD Welcomes Campus and District Leaders to the Team

The Lockhart ISD Board of Trustees welcomed two new leaders to the Lockhart ISD leadership team during a special called Board meeting last night. Upon the Superintendent’s recommendation, the Board voted to hire Luciano Castro as Lockhart High School Associate Principal and Christina Courson as the District’s Public Information Officer.

Mr. Castro has served children and their communities as an educator and instructional leader for 15 years. He has worked as a math teacher in the Austin and Pflugerville school districts and as a middle school assistant principal in Austin ISD. He is currently the Principal of the Secondary Campus (grades 6-12) in Sabinal Independent School District. Mr. Castro has a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and a Master of Education degree from Texas State University. He is pursuing his doctorate in School Improvement at Texas State University.

Mr. Castro fills the campus administrative position left vacant by former M.L. Cisneros Freshman Campus Principal Denisha Presley. He will supervise the M.L. Cisneros Freshman Campus for the remainder of the 2016-17 school year and will work with the high school administrative team to transition to Lockhart High School. Mr. Castro will have a wide-range of duties at LHS, with a focus on academic and instructional leadership and supervision. Lockhart ISD officials are working with Mr. Castro’s current district to establish a timeframe for his arrival, and will provide notice to students, staff, and parents.

Ms. Courson comes to Lockhart from Hays Consolidated ISD, where she has served as the Communication Specialist in the district’s Public Information Office for the last four years.  She has worked for 15 years in communications for schools and state agencies supporting children, including the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and the Texas Youth Commission. Ms. Courson’s work has been recognized by the Texas School Public Relations Association, and she holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from The American University in Washington, D.C. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Leadership and Change from St. Edward’s University. As LISD’s Public Information Officer, Ms. Courson will lead all communication for the District and campuses, including public, community, and media relations. She will join the District on October 10th.

Superintendent Susan Bohn shared, “I appreciate so much the work that our interview and screening teams did to identify these two outstanding leaders. Luciano and Christina come to us with exceptional experience and accomplishments, as well as stellar references. We are fortunate to have both of them join our leadership team and serve Lockhart students, staff, and community.”
