Letter from LJHS Principal Lori Davis regarding updated traffic procedures

Letter from LJHS Principal Lori Davis regarding updated traffic procedures
Posted on 08/16/2017

Dear Lockhart Junior High School Parents,

I want to thank you for your patience with the significant traffic delays this afternoon. While it is not unusual to have more traffic around the first few days, the delays this afternoon were beyond the usual, and it became clear we needed to address it before tomorrow.

I would like to thank the Lockhart Police Department for their help today in directing traffic during a difficult situation.

District and campus administrators worked together this evening to develop a better plan to route the traffic in a way that reduces the congestion. You will see the a photo below, and a full description of the procedures are listed further below along with a printable version of the procedures.

You can click here to watch a video of how the updated plan will work.

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work through this. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at Lori.Davis@lockhart.txed.net.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

CAR LINE PROCEDURES:  If you drive your child to school, please drop-off and pick-up at the BACK of Lockhart Junior High School at the 6th grade gym. We need to reduce the traffic waiting in line on City Line Road so that traffic can keep moving. To help facilitate this movement, we are asking that all car traffic proceed straight down Maple to the soccer fields parking lot and loop around and proceed back up Maple to turn right into the LJHS driveway. This will help draw traffic away from City Line Road.

When turning into LJHS driveway,  proceed all the way down to the loading/unloading zone. Students may ONLY be dropped off and picked up in the designated area at one of the numbered drop-off or pick-up zones. For students’ safety please use the marked designated spaces only.

The supervisors will direct your child where to go. To facilitate the drop-off procedure, please keep the line moving, and allow your child to exit on his or her own. You do not need to exit the car.

AFTER SCHOOL PICK-UP: A staff member will greet you at the entrance to the school at Maple Street and enter your student’s name onto a list that will be displayed in the 6th grade gym. When a student sees and hears their name, they will proceed to the loading zone. It is imperative that students are listening and watching for their name. If you arrive at a space and your student has not exited the building, we will ask you to pull up to the designated waiting area. This area will be designated with cones.

Watch for students in the crosswalk and students riding their bikes to school. Please drive SLOWLY. The school zone is a CELL-PHONE FREE zone. Please refrain from using your phone at any time while dropping off your child.
